Music Mondays

A friend of mine texted me the news yesterday and it definetly came as a shock to me. Her voice. No one has ever had a voice like that and no one ever will. Not to mention how much of a talented musician and incredible businesswoman she was as well. Teena Marie was a BAAD, BAAD woman. So for today's Music Monday, I am posting a video of one of my faves, Portugese Love. Someone put it best when they said , "Heaven's choir has a new soprano." R.I.P TEENA MARIE

I like to mix things up a bit. I will sometimes wear bright, springy colors on my nails in the fall and winter to liven it up a bit. I decided to go with this pink from Sally Hansen called Feelin Hot!-Hot!-Hot! And since I've been kinda feelin myself lately, I think it"s titled appropiately. :)   *oops!, that's OPI*

There Are No Stupid Questions. Ever.

.For some strange reason, this memory ran across my mind today. Some time back (years ago), I was out on a date with a very handsome guy, having a great time. I'm talking great conversation, he planned the whole day and took me to some new places (I love being introduced to new things). So, basically I'm like, ok, great, let's do this again, this may be someone I want to get to now better, yada, yada, yada. Well, later on in the date we are talking and I decide to ask him this question. I go "So, have you ever had a homosexual experience?" And he goes, "Noo...but if I ever did it would be with my roomate 'cause he's just such a great guy and..."  Say Whaaat?!
Needless to say, pretty much after "noo, but" it was a wrap! And the crazy thing is, he went on for a couple of minutes talking about his rommate's attributes and why he'd be the perfect choice. I ended the date, politely excused myself and just laughed to myself the whole way home( I always drive myself the first few dates). And I shared that to say, ladies There are no stupid questions, EVER.

Change is Inevitable

But it's up to us to decide what kind of change we want. We influence that by our choices, our actions, our VOTES!! Today Nov.2, 2010 is an election day and although we are not voting for president, this election may be more important because we are are voting for the people that are going to support or hinder our president. We are voting for our local and state representatives that are going to influence and make laws that directly affect us and our daily lives - our children's lives...Don't be apathetic people! Don't think that your vote dosen't count, because IT DOES!! Maybe now more than ever...And don't ever forget that many died so that we could have this this right. If for no other reason but to honor them, BE HEARD.

Practice leads to perfect

So I'm still doing some experimenting with my hair. I like the wash-n-go look but with fall here and wanting my hair to grow back out, I will need to switch it up soon. As soon as I figure it out, I'll let you guys know. This is what I did last weekend...

1)First, my hair was feeling a little dry so I pre-poo'd with coconut oil. (I basically sprayed my hair damp w/ water and then applied coconut oil. Sat under dryer w/plastic cap for about 10 mins.

2)I rinsed, then washed w/ Giovanni's 50/50 shampoo(review coming soon!)

3)Deep conditioned under dryer for about 20 mins. w/ Taliah Waajid Enhancing Herbal Conditioner

4)Applied Kinky Curly Knot Today as leave-in

5)Re-wet hair w/ spray bottle and put in my beloved Kinky Curly Curling Custard. Some pics below..

pleasure principle- n. The tendency to reduce pain and seek immediate gratification of instinctual needs.

ex.Because my habit to saturate myself with things that I love sometimes backfires, I have a tendency to indulge in the pleasure principle.

Which Favors Will You Deny?

I have a cousin who is an evangelist and she's awesome. We were sitting having a conversation one day a couple of years back and I began to cry because basically, she told me that I wasn't following my true purpose. She saw that God had other plans in store for me and I was running from them. Trying to do the politically correct thing. Whenever people would ask me "what are you up to now?", I would always give the politically correct answer, afraid of their reaction to what I really wanted to say. I would try so hard to deny myself, I even went so far as to try and make myself believe I didn't have the gifts I did. I just wanted to be regular. I didn't want to be special. I was trying to put out my own light! Why do we do that to ourselves? And it didn't even matter what I did because those desires to follow my dreams never went away and would always come creeping back. In fact, I have been having these visions for my life since I was about five years old! I would be blessed with so many gifts and given so many opportunities that I didn't even ask for or seek out, they just came. The way that you can tell the difference between a desire that God has placed in your heart and just wishful dreaming is it never goes away...When you finally decide to follow your God-given dreams, there are no limits to where they will take you.

This is one of my favorite quotes from Marianne Williamson. I have to remind myself of this constantly..
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
